Cowboy hats off to Ward Bond, our new Star of the Week! To start things off, we've got reviews for They Were Expendable and It's a Wonderful Life (the two movies that were mentioned in the clue) as well as a video clip capturing his warm energy from The Searchers posted to his page. You won't find a review for it, but try and find old episodes from his four years on Wagon Train. Come back every day for new reviews and enjoy!

Whether you believe addiction is a mental illness, a genetic betrayal, or a physical pattern that can't be broken, it's always difficult to watch movies or read about it - especially when the depiction is realistic. I don't really enjoy this subgenre, but I have read a few books lately exploring different sicknesses. I wouldn't recommend any, but the reviews are posted just the same:
Blackout - a memoir of alcoholism Bastard Out of Carolina - horrifying and repeated sexual abuse The Wednesday Group - wives of sex addicts form their own group therapy If you haven't picked up an Erica Bauermeister novel yet, you're missing out on some powerful writing, as well as some heartwarming stories! I've read the three she's written so far, and whatever she publishes in the future, I'm guaranteed to read.
Check out my reviews for The School of Essential Ingredients, Joy for Beginners, and The Lost Art of Mixing. Do you know the actor who serenaded Donna Reed in two movies?
If you do, then you'll be able to guess next week's Star. Let me know in the comments! If you don't, maybe have a marathon of her movies this weekend to figure it out. Donna Reed's time has come to a close, and all 19 of her reviews are now posted to her page. Since this is a tough clue, take an extra day to think about it. Come back on Tuesday to find out who he is. A toast to our first Star of 2022: Donna Reed! To start things off, a video clip from It's a Wonderful Life has been posted to her page, as well as reviews for two cute flicks, Trouble Along the Way and The Courtship of Andy Hardy. For those of you who don't know, we don't review television on The Rag, but for classic Donna Reed, check out some old episodes of the eight years of The Donna Reed Show, or the two years she acted in Dallas. Enjoy, and come back directly to her page for two new reviews every day! To pay tribute to this great icon, we're posting reviews of two of Sidney Poitier's memoirs, The Measure of a Man and Life Beyond Measure: Letters to My Great-Granddaughter. Both are fascinating and heartwarming, and I highly recommend them. Also, now posted to his page are two reviews of movies I recently re-watched: In the Heat of the Night and For Love of Ivy.
He took us through December and January, but now it's time to end James Stewart's time as Star of the Week. All 53 of his reviews are now posted to his page, in case you missed any days. To start off our first Star of 2022, here is an easy clue:
She's most famous for portraying the perfect mother on television. If you watched a James Stewart Christmas movie this season, chances are you saw her too. Check back on Friday to start her week! |
