A very Happy Halloween to you and yours! What are you planning on watching tonight, something spooky or more cuddly? As you can tell from my reviews, I'm quite the scaredy-cat, so my idea of a Halloween movie is Curious George's Halloween special.
Thanks to all the Stars of the Week this year--Robert Mitchum, Fredric March, Walter Huston, and others--we've got tons of more movies added to the Halloween list. Check it out!

A toast to Barbara Stanwyck, Hot Toasty Rag's Star of the Week! To start with, we've posted to her page a video clip from Stella Dallas, as well as reviews of three classics: Stella Dallas, The Lady Eve, and Double Indemnity. Check back every day for new reviews, and enjoy! In case you haven't seen her movies but she looks familiar, you might recognize her from playing the matriarch on The Big Valley, the miniseries The Thorn Birds, or the spinoff of Dynasty, The Colbys. Sometimes you’re just in the mood for a good laugh. Maybe you’ve just finished The Color Purple or something else really heavy and can’t take another depressing book. In that case, pick up one of these! I finished Elle Casey’s four-book comic series, which was for the most part, a barrel of laughs. Now listed on the Books page are my reviews for Wrong Place, Right Time and Wrong Question, Right Answer and Wrong Turn, Right Direction. And if you’re in the mood some something side-splittingly funny, pick up Robert Asprin’s Myth Conceptions. What makes you laugh?
Walter Huston's time as Star of the Week has come to a close, and all 29 reviews have now been posted to his page. Here's your clue for next week's star:
In his last film, Walter Huston played next week’s star’s father. She was nominated for four Oscars before receiving an Honorary Oscar, and later in life, she played the matriarch on a famous western television drama. Any guesses? Come back on Friday to find out if you're right! Our new Star of the Week is Walter Huston! To start with, we've got reviews posted to his page for two of his famous and beloved performances in Dodsworth and The Devil and Daniel Webster. Also, check out his video clip from American Madness, and come back every day for fresh reviews. Enjoy! If you think just because you’re a grown-up you can’t read children’s books, you’re missing out on some great reads. Sure, some of the large-print picture books aren’t just acceptable to read unless you’re reading them aloud to a youngster, but other books are great to read no matter how old you are. They either teach great lessons that you already know and will draw a tear to you eye, or they’re classics that never go out of style.
Check out my reviews of The Frog Princess, Heidi, and The Wind in the Willows! Jane Russell's time as Star of the Week has come to a close, and all 14 of her reviews are now posted to her page. Any guesses for the next star? Here's your clue:
In Jane Russell’s first movie, she starred alongside next week’s star, the patriarch in a very famous multi-generational Hollywood family. Come back on Saturday to find out if you're right! |
