Robert Newton, the man who created the original pirate, is Hot Toasty Rag's Star of the Week! He's much more than Long John Silver and Blackbeard, though, but I'll start posting those reviews tomorrow. For now, enjoy his most famous films posted to his page, Treasure Island, Long John Silver, and Blackbeard the Pirate. Plus, learn how to talk like a pirate by watching his video clip!

I rarely share non-fiction reviews on The Rag, even though I do read them, so here are a bunch of non-fiction funny books I’ve read over the years. Spring makes you want to read something lighthearted, doesn’t it? Do any of these sound good to you?
30 Rock and Philosophy How Not to Become a Crotchety Old Man I Am America (And So Can You!) A Man Without a Country On Being Blonde Texts from Last Night Deborah Kerr's time as Star of the Week has come to an end, and all 35 movie reviews have been posted to her page. Here's your clue for next week's star:
Next week’s star, who played Deborah Kerr’s dad in a movie, isn’t a household name. But without him, there would be no such thing as “International Talk Like a Pirate Day”. . . Do you know who it is? Check back on Tuesday to see if you're right! It doesn’t happen very often, but every once in a while I read a modern book that I love. I loved The Story of Beautiful Girl. Read my full review to find out why!
You know what would be fun? Let's say Hot Toasty Rag is honoring a movie star that you haven't heard of. You see his picture and read a few reviews, but you still don't know if you want to rent one of his movies. How cool would it be if there was a video clip of one of his performances, right there on the page?
I think it would be cool. So, ta da! Hot Toasty Rag will now feature a video clip on each Star of the Week's page. I've updated the list of stars so far. Take a look! Even if you don't think you know who she is, I know you've seen her. She's the girl in the famous ocean kiss scene redone a million times over. To start with, I've posted reviews for From Here to Eternity (the ocean makeout movie), The King and I, and Separate Tables to her page. Enjoy, and come back every day for new reviews! What have you been reading lately? I’ll let you in on my recent books. In case I’ve hooked any of you in on the Sweet Valley University series, I have another review for you: Volume 15: Behind Closed Doors. Also, I read a pretty interesting mysterious novel The Incident Under the Overpass. And for you romance lovers out there, I read a pretty funny book, despite the drama implied in the title: The Fall of January Cooper.
All 59 of David Niven's movie reviews have now been posted to his page, as well as his three book reviews, so he must relinquish his title of Star of the Week. Any guesses for next week's star? Here's a clue:
David Niven said this about one of the five films he made with next week’s star: “They gave me very good lines and then cut to [her] while I was saying them.” No hard feelings, though. He won an Oscar for that performance! Check back on Wednesday to find out who it is! I know, by now, you must know how much I love David Niven the actor. I’ll bet you didn’t know how much I love David Niven the author, did you? His memoirs, written in the 1970s, were some of the most beloved, best-selling memoirs in Hollywood! And, since celebrity bios is one of my favorite genres to read, I can absolutely endorse that statement. He’s an incredibly talented writer, and it’s become a Christmas tradition for me to curl up and read one of his four books at the end of the year.
