I saw The Cider House Rules in college, and after drying my tears, went to the library to read the book. I lived in a little apartment with no lights in the bedroom, so during the four-day weekend, I read with sunlight in the day, and curled up on the floor of my closet at night--the closet had one tiny light bulb. After such an experience, I had to find out why the movie differed from the book, especially since John Irving wrote the screenplay adaptation! After reading his memoir My Movie Business, unfortunately I was still wondering... And since I fell in love with his words in college, I decided to read another of his novels. I went to the book store, found an entire shelf with his novels, and read the first few pages of each, waiting for one to grab my attention.
