In need of a good laugh to start the weekend? Try out Ben There, Done That, a fast-paced read starring Sabrina the Teenage Witch. I know, it sounds a little silly, but take my word for it: it's absolutely hilarious.
Want something a little more serious? Chad Kultgen's The Lie is an incredibly heavy, powerful read that will hook you in with the very first page. You'll finish it in a few days (because it's impossible to put down) and afterwards, it'll stick with you. Forever. And for those of you who are as addicted as I am to the Sweet Valley college series, I have the next installment, book #6: The Love of Her Life. Enjoy!

For today's post, I've decided to give only glowing reviews! As today is the fifth day of the fifth month--and 5 is my lucky number--only books who earn a five-star rating (even though I don't give stars on my website) will be shared today.
Starting with the 5th book of the Sweet Valley series: A Married Woman. I seriously love this series, and coincidentally, the 5th book is one of my favorites. Oh, the drama! Next up is Keep Moving: And Other Tips and Truths About Aging, Dick Van Dyke's incredibly touching memoir about life and love. You need to read this book. And finally, we have Peyton Place, one of the greatest American novels ever written. If you've never read it, you seriously need to. Check out my review to find out why. Thanks for stopping by : ) Anyone up for a little romance? There's a little something for everyone in today's list of reviews.
For classic lovers, try the take on Jane Austen's story: Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters. Modern family, anyone? The Comfort of Lies is messy and far from, well, comforting. And of course, to round off the day, the next installment in the addicting series: Sweet Valley University #4: Anything for Love New Adult fiction is basically Young Adult fiction, but the characters are in their twenties instead of the their teens. Young Adult fiction deals with teenage problems; New Adult fiction deals with 20-something problems. Sure, in general there are darker themes and more sexual situations, but some YA books are pretty heavy.
What are your thoughts? Have you read NA? Do you think it deserves its own genre, or do you think it should bleed into general fiction, women's fiction, etc. based on what the subject matter is? Today, I'm posting three New Adult reviews. Of course, I'm continuing the Sweet Valley University series, a fantastic series written in the '90s about the college days of Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield, with What Your Parents Don't Know... What happens when your best friend, the woman you've hidden behind the past ten years, gets hit by a car? In The Art of Forgetting, two women's friendship is tested when the "alpha" is forced to take a back seat. And to round out the college drama and friendship drama, my last review today is pure comedy. Check out Wrong Number, Right Guy! Welcome back! You're probably thinking to yourself, "I hope her website will have more than three reviews on it." And rightly so! A review site with hardly any reviews on it is pretty lonely. So, I've written up three new ones for your enjoyment. Three is a good number. I thought about coming up with a Hot, a Toasty, and a Rag for every post, but that would mean I'd have to love, like, and hate one apiece. Sometimes I like what I read and sometimes I don't, so to take the pressure off my reviews, I'll just keep it to three, whether they be Hot or Rags.
The Accidental Book Club SVU 2: Love, Lies, and Jessica Wakefield Charlie Hartley 2: The Enlightened Let me know what you think in the comments, or drop me a line on the About page! Thanks for stopping by :) Welcome, welcome one and all! More than likely, you've come over from my author website, but for those of you who chanced upon The Rag, I'll tell you a little about myself and my site.
I'm Edie Nolan, author of a few novels and reader of many, many more. It's one of my favorite things in the world to read a book (good or bad) and tell someone about it. I've spent hours upon hours discussing the merits or hair-pulling frustrations of the books I've read. Why not write them down? So, there you have it. I've started out with a few book reviews, and as the site grows, I'll be adding in movie and tv show reviews, too. Anyone who knows me knows all someone has to do is ask me, "Seen any movies lately?" and I'll talk for an hour. Hope you enjoy The Rag! There's a cute story behind the name, but I'll save that for another time. For now, check out my first three reviews: A Hard Day's Write: The Stories Behind Every Beatles Song SVU 1: College Girls Charlie Hartley 1: The Unlocked |
