Lots of Young Adult books are dystopian, action-packed novels with short, choppy sentences that leave readers with nothing to ponder after the last page. There are gems in this genre, if you look for them, that give even the most mature reader a tearful, enjoyable read. I’ve already reviewed Speak, a novel that definitely sparks a conversation, and today I’m reviewing what I tend to think of as the male equivalent to Laurie Halse Anderson’s novel: The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
Also, I have the ninth book in the Sweet Valley series. These girls experience more than their fair share of teen drama, as shown in Sorority Scandal. A series that was relatively overlooked was the Clearwater Crossing series. Similar to any dramatic high school setting, the book The Diaries is an encapsulation of the first four books of the series, told in a diary format from each of the girls. An interesting concept, and a fun read.
